Even if you want to try VR but don’t have the necessary equipment, you can still experience authentic VR attractions at a VR experience facility.
Some VR experience facilities allow you to experience the worlds of famous games and movies, and there are now activities that engage not only your eyes but your whole body, such as those that can be played by multiple people, those that allow you to walk around an entire area, and those that involve riding.
This article introduces full-fledged VR experience facilities available in and around Tokyo as of July 2026. It also includes facilities focusing on immersive experiences, which have been gaining attention in recent years.

Tokyo Metropolitan Government XR “TOKYO LEGACY XR MEMORIES” and VR “Virtual Edo Marathon”
On March 27, 2026, an interactive digital sports area was newly established on the second floor of the Tokyo Metropolitan Government Building No. 1. This free facility, developed by the Tokyo Metropolitan Government to commemorate the 5th anniversary of the Tokyo 2020 Games, utilizes XR content for sports experiences. Actively employing XR technology from startups, the area’s concept is to provide an enjoyable experience for everyone involved in sports—those who “watch, play, and support” sports.
The highlight is the XR experience “TOKYO LEGACY XR MEMORIES.” Enter a virtual space that realistically recreates the sports climbing wall (15m high) actually used at the Tokyo 2020 Games, and experience the feeling of climbing the wall at the same speed as top athletes. When you put on the VR goggles, you can experience the actual texture and height of the gigantic competition wall that unfolds before your eyes, and the realism is so impressive that even athletes who participated in the Games were amazed, saying, “The way the wall looks and its texture are exactly the same.”
The “Virtual Edo Marathon” is an immersive experience where you start from the Tokyo Marathon’s starting point in front of the Tokyo Metropolitan Government Building and run through the streets of Edo-period Japan while wearing VR goggles. Your view moves in sync with your arm movements, and you can enjoy 360-degree video of famous landmarks such as Asakusa and Nihonbashi with a guide who is a messenger. Other attractions include the multiplayer game “Cyber Boccia” and the “e-Skatepark” where you can enjoy skateboarding tricks. It’s a unique Tokyo experience spot where sports, culture, and digital technology merge.

Escape in the Liminal World VR Space
This is the first-ever VR event in the series’ history, allowing players to experience the world of Fuji TV’s popular program “Run for Money” in a VR space. Developed and operated by the “Run for Money Liminal World Production Committee,” the event is produced by VR entertainment company ABAL. The setting is “Liminal Space,” which has become a globally popular internet meme, where players can enjoy a virtual escape drama in a slightly eerie and surreal other world, trying to escape from “Hunters” who suddenly appear.
The moment you put on the VR headset, you become a fugitive. Dressed in original costumes, you’ll freely roam a vast area and take on various missions. It’s not a chase game where you test your physical strength, but rather a stealth-based game where you “hide” behind cover to avoid the hunters. A ranking of fugitives is determined by the points you earn, and if you manage to escape without being caught by a hunter even once, you’ll be awarded the title of “Complete Conquest.” ABAL’s spatial augmentation technology allows for an immersive experience that makes you feel as if you’re moving around a vast area while actually walking around in a limited physical space.
