Tokyo Gakugei University holds event to introduce case studies using XR and other technologies in physical education, moving from “sensation” to “data”

The Naoki Suzuki Laboratory at Tokyo Gakugei University will hold two events to publicize the results of educational practices that utilize ICT, XR, and educational data. In addition to holding an “Education Innovation Forum” at the Tokyo Gakugei University Koganei Campus on Saturday, January 31, 2026, the laboratory will hold a series of “open classes” at elementary, junior high, and high schools across Japan from Tuesday, January 27 to Tuesday, February 10, 2026.

While physical education has traditionally relied heavily on the senses, this forum aims to visualize and quantify movement. Using motion sensors that capture body movements and AI analysis, spatial awareness and tactical training in VR, as well as drone analysis, will also be implemented. Cases where virtual space is used to support children who need support will also be introduced.

The forum on January 31st will feature case studies and a symposium, followed by a hands-on session in the second half where participants can see firsthand the use of XR and educational data. Participation is free and limited to the first 100 people.

Additionally, open classes will be held at elementary, junior high and high schools across the country from January 27th to February 10th in Yamaguchi, Hiroshima, Tokyo, Kanagawa, Saitama, Aomori and Shizuoka.
