On October 9th, Sony will release its first fisheye zoom lens, the FE 8-14mm F3.5 Fisheye G. Pre-orders will begin on September 29th at 10:00 AM. The price is open.

(Fisheye zoom lens ‘FE 8-14mm F3.5 Fisheye G’)
This E-mount lens is compatible with 35mm full-frame image sensors and has a focal length of 8mm to 14mm. At 8mm, it projects a circular fisheye image onto the sensor with a 180° angle of view, while at 14mm, it becomes a diagonal fisheye that uses the entire screen, covering a wide range of fisheye expressions with a single lens. The optical design, which incorporates special low-dispersion glass and aspherical lenses, suppresses chromatic aberration and other distortions throughout the zoom range. The minimum focusing distance is 0.15m, and the maximum magnification is 0.22x at the telephoto end.

This lens can also be used for VR shooting. Its compact barrel, with a maximum diameter of approximately 63.1mm and a total length of approximately 82.8mm, allows for a configuration where two sets of the ‘VENICE Extension System Mini‘ are placed side-by-side. In this configuration, the distance between the optical axes of the left and right lenses is approximately 64mm, a value close to the average interpupillary distance of a human eye. This creates parallax similar to human vision, allowing for a natural reproduction of distance to the subject and depth of space.
Weighing approximately 314g, this lens features an inner zoom system that minimizes changes in the center of gravity during zooming, making it suitable for shooting with gimbals and rigs. In terms of focusing, it offers high-speed, high-precision autofocus, as well as linear response manual focus where the focus position precisely matches the amount of rotation of the focus ring. Focus breathing, where the angle of view changes during focusing, is also suppressed. Furthermore, it features a focus mode switch to fix the focus position, a zoom lock switch, and an aperture ring with or without click stops. With its dustproof and splashproof design and fluorine coating on the front lens element, it’s also suitable for outdoor shooting.
Please note that the product will be on display at Sony Store locations in Ginza, Sapporo, Nagoya, Osaka, and Fukuoka Tenjin starting September 11th.
