XR Entertainment in Japan 2026.06.15

Kumamon’s XR interactive content, “Kumamon Dungeon,” will open in Kumamoto City in July.

Kumamoto Prefecture, JTB, and ABAL are jointly hosting “Kumamon Dungeon,” an experiential content combining XR technology and tourism. It will begin on July 1, 2026, at SAKURA MACHI Kumamoto in Kumamoto City.

Visitors will wear XR headsets and explore a dungeon by actually walking through it. The adventure takes place in stages themed after tourist attractions such as Kumamoto Castle, with Kumamon joining them. Missions will appear along the course, and there will also be challenges against bosses associated with Kumamoto Prefecture. The experience is designed to be enjoyable for both children and adults, and takes approximately 20 minutes to complete.

The “treasures (medals)” that can be obtained during the adventure can be exchanged for coupons usable at tourist spots and restaurants in Kumamoto Prefecture, or for Kumamon merchandise, allowing players to immediately go sightseeing or dining out.
