A long-established hotel in Hakone introduces a new audio guide experience with “mixed sound” to enhance immersion

A new audio guide experience will begin at the Fujiya Hotel in Hakone on December 29, 2025. Participants can tour the hotel by starting the app on their smartphone and listening to the audio guide as they walk around, scanning the hotel’s iconic designs with their camera.

After scanning, an audio guide related to that location will play. Guests can enjoy the voice of the founder talking about the hotel’s history, accompanied by background music and sound effects. A rich story unfolds, including a dialogue between the first and third generations. It is an immersive experience that makes you feel like you are touching a story that transcends time. The founder’s voice will guide guests through the history, providing a viewing experience.

The Yamaha Sound xR Core technology used in this project reproduces 360-degree sound from ordinary earphones. It is a technology that positions sound in space and designs high-quality sound spaces. This solution works with game development tools like Unity and Unreal Engine. Plugins are also available for audio control software such as CRI ADX and Wwise. Currently, the technology is being used in areas such as navigation and industry, in addition to virtual spaces.

This experience can be experienced inside the Fujiya Hotel in Hakone, Kanagawa Prefecture. The tour takes about 45 minutes and costs 500 yen, including an original map. Support is available in two languages: Japanese and English. You can participate by signing up at the hotel front desk.
