BSCode Co., Ltd. and Professor Tatsuo Kodaira of Toyama Junior College have begun joint research utilizing the smart glasses “NASGlass” and the nursing care record request system “NASRECO”. The aim is to build and demonstrate an educational model that cultivates on-the-job skills for foreign nursing care students and prospective nursing care workers before they arrive in Japan.
According to estimates by the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare, there will be a shortage of approximately 570,000 care workers by 2040. While the need to accept foreign personnel is increasing, language communication difficulties and the costs of on-the-job training are a significant burden for both facilities and foreign staff.
This joint research aims to accelerate the process of caregiving education, which has traditionally been conducted through on-the-job training after arrival in Japan, to pre-entry caregivers. We will explore the implementation of practical training programs by combining the voice recognition and AI assistant functions installed in NASGlass with NASRECO, which supports multilingual voice input in more than 50 languages.
NASGlass is a smart glasses device that allows for hands-free caregiving record-keeping. It features multiple functions such as real-time translation, voice activation, and photo taking, and supports over 50 languages. NASRECO is a caregiving and nursing record system designed to be “usable by everyone,” including foreigners and part-time staff, and significantly reduces the burden of record entry.
BSCode’s director, Utakawa, commented, “When technology removes language and educational barriers, the field of elderly care will change dramatically. We will demonstrate this to the world through research with Kodaira Professor of Junior Toyama College.”
Going forward, our plan is to expand our efforts beyond Japan to include collaboration with overseas caregiving personnel dispatch and training institutions, and to accumulate international evidence through joint publications with overseas academic institutions.
