Otemae University’s virtual campus opens to the public on VRChat, including a replica of the teahouse, a registered tangible cultural property

Daimaru Matsuzakaya Department Store is collaborating with Otemae University to open a new world in VRChat, “Otemae University Virtual Campus,” in March 2026.

This world was produced by the Metaverse Project of Daimaru Matsuzakaya Department Stores. The teahouse “Chikuryuan,” a registered tangible cultural property owned by Otemae Gakuen Educational Corporation, is recreated in a virtual space. Chikuryuan will serve as a base for exhibitions of digital archives and the dissemination of creative activities by students in fields such as information, art, manga, and architecture.

The world is made up of three sections: the lecture space, the exchange space, and the Taketatsuan. The lecture space is equipped with a screen, allowing both faculty and students to give presentations. The exchange space is designed with a stained glass motif, which was installed on campus as a symbol of the recovery from the Great Hanshin-Awaji Earthquake. Users who live far away can also experience the campus atmosphere.

A virtual open campus will also be held. A pre-event will be held on Tuesday, March 17th from 2pm to 4pm, where you can freely interact with faculty and current students. On Sunday, March 22nd, a virtual open campus will be held at the same time as the open campus at the Sakura Shukugawa Campus. Visitors can visit the campus from home using an avatar and experience the university atmosphere and learning through conversations with current students.

Daimaru Matsuzakaya Department Stores plans to continue its collaboration with Otemae University, including collaborating with students using the world and holding lectures on the business applications of the metaverse.
