On February 7, 2026, Sustainable Map General Incorporated Association will hold the “Sustainable Marche 2026.” The venue will be the Shin-Yurigaoka district of Kawasaki City, Kanagawa Prefecture. The event will feature local elementary and junior high school students taking the lead role in proposing next-generation urban development. The event will be built using the popular game “Minecraft.” The technical platform will utilize the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism’s 3D city model “Project PLATEAU.”

The children built areas and facilities based on the four main themes outlined by Kawasaki City in its redevelopment plan for the area around Shin-Yurigaoka Station. Using open data from PLATEAU, which represents a real-life town in 3D, the children implemented the data in Minecraft. Using a virtual space with the same scale as reality as a base, they were able to consider realistic urban development proposals.

Government plans are primarily written information and contain a lot of technical terminology, making them difficult for children to understand. This initiative aims to visualize local issues using Minecraft, allowing children to see them as their own problems.

The organizing group has been working for the past five years, accumulating perspectives and data from around the region. This event will be the culmination of their activities, passing on the baton from their predecessors. At the event, the children will give presentations using the worlds they have created.
