VRChat in Japan 2026.02.10

Japan ranks first in the world in the number of visitors to the official VRChat website, and second in the number of mobile downloads with a 25% share.

Research company Sensor Tower has released usage data for VRChat. Over the past year, DAU, which indicates the number of daily users, has been ranked first in the highly flexible sandbox category. Japan’s presence is particularly notable in visitor data, with the total number of official site visits reaching approximately 650 million in 2025.

By country, Japan leads the world with 37% of the market share. The United States comes in second with 27%. Access from Japan has been on the rise since January 2025. In September, the number of monthly visitors exceeded 10 million, and the cumulative number of visitors for the year has reached approximately 23 million.

The mobile version of VRChat was released on October 25, 2025. It allows users to access virtual spaces without a dedicated headset, meeting the demand for easy use. As of the end of November, the United States held the top share of downloads. Japan recorded 25% of downloads, making it the second largest market in the world after the United States.

Companies in Japan are also actively using it. Nissan Motor Co. held a virtual launch event for a new light electric vehicle. Sanrio also held a large-scale virtual event. With the spread of the mobile version, it is expected that the barrier to participation in these events will be further lowered.

Sensor Tower, which provided the data, is a market analysis company founded in San Francisco in 2013. It has previously provided reports based on the results of research into web apps, digital advertising, and more. In 2025, it moved its Japan office to Kanda, Tokyo, and is expanding its business.
