Panasonic Advanced Technology releases portable 3D scanner “@mapper”

Panasonic Advanced Technology Co., Ltd. released the handheld 3D laser scanner “@mapper” on February 24, 2026. The price is 1.98 million yen (tax included).

@mapper is a product that utilizes the SLAM technology cultivated by the company through the development of autonomous mobile robots. SLAM is a technology in which sensors determine a robot’s current position in real space while simultaneously creating a map of its surroundings. It supports wide-area 3D measurement even indoors where GNSS cannot be used. It is designed to be easy to use, even without specialized knowledge.

To correct errors caused by laser vibration, we use LiDAR Inertial Odometry (LIO). LIO is a technology that combines information from a laser sensor with an IMU (a sensor that measures acceleration and angular velocity) to estimate the position and orientation of a moving object with high precision. This allows for stable scanning quality while walking.

It has three features. The first is ease of operation. No complicated settings or work by multiple people are required; scanning is completed simply by walking with the device. The second is wide-area coverage. The laser sensor has a maximum measurement range of 60m, allowing efficient measurement even in large facilities such as high-rise buildings and large factories. The third is that the work can be completed on-site. The acquired data is converted into 3D data in real time and can be saved on a USB memory stick and taken away on the spot. No additional post-processing work is required.

Scan example: intersection
Scan example: Suspension bridge

Potential applications are diverse, including BIM (a 3D model information management method used in the design, construction, and maintenance of buildings), digital twins, and digital maps. In addition to inventory management and equipment inspections, it can also be used for wide-area scanning of factories, plants, and large facilities, as well as for measurements both indoors and outdoors.

Sales will be through direct sales and through agents, and prices may vary depending on contract terms.
