On February 12, 2024, Sony and Sony Marketing opened the Digital Media Production Center Japan, a joint creative hub for video production. It is located within the Sony Group headquarters in Minato Ward, Tokyo. This is the third such center globally, following those in the US and the UK, and will meet the needs of the domestic and international film, broadcasting, and streaming industries. It will be used as a place to share knowledge and success stories about next-generation production methods, and to resolve issues through dialogue with creators.
The photography studio is equipped with the latest cinema cameras, including the flagship model VENICE 2, as well as lighting equipment and art sets used on set. Test shooting is possible while checking the fine adjustments of the equipment. Testing in an environment close to the actual production supports efficient shooting. It is an environment where creators can challenge themselves to create new forms of expression.

Post-production
Specialized equipment has been installed on the virtual production stage. The method of shooting involves projecting the background onto a large LED, and we have introduced the high-brightness, wide-color-gamut Crystal LED VERONA. It also incorporates a camera tracking system and specialized software. This is an environment where production workflows can be tested using actual equipment. It also supports multi-camera shooting using portable cameras, making it possible to verify equipment configurations and test operation on actual equipment.
The “XYN” solution, which supports 3DCG production and XR, has also been introduced. Here, visitors can experience the process of spatial content production. The mobile motion capture system mocopi is also utilized. Stereoscopic viewing is also possible on the spatial reproduction display, providing an environment in which new possibilities for spatial expression can be pursued.
The facility also includes booths for editing and finishing. Monitors and 4K LCD TVs have been installed. Advanced color grading can be performed here. Color grading is the process of adjusting the colors of the video to create a special effect. As it is located in the same facility as the filming studio, consistent verification is possible. The finished product can be checked immediately after shooting. This provides creators with a test environment for an efficient production workflow.
