Akasaka’s traditional culture and XR come together in this life-size hologram-style geisha exhibit at Akasaka Biz Tower

An exhibition using the transparent display “Holobox” is being held as part of the special event “Akasaka Akanesai” being held at Akasaka Biz Tower from February 28th.

The exhibition hall is lined with items symbolizing the history and culture of Akasaka, such as the floats and float dolls of Hikawa Shrine, the hanten coats of the Akasaka Neighborhood Association, and the kimonos of the Akasaka entertainment district. A life-size projection of Akasaka Ikuko, a geisha representative of Akasaka, is projected onto a holobox set up within the space to welcome visitors.

Holobox is a device equipped with a see-through display that uses special screen and lighting technology to provide a naked-eye 3D experience, where images appear to float in space. No special 3D glasses or VR headset are required, and it displays life-size people in high-definition 4K. It has been used in a variety of situations, including live artist performances and corporate entrance guidance.
