Recently, the number of Roblox users, especially among children, has been rapidly increasing in Japan.
Roblox is often described as a gaming platform, but it’s more than just a place to play games. It’s a fertile ground where creators from all over the world can build their own economic ecosystems.
Roblox is also a platform that actively promotes the use of AI. Not only can you use AI within its dedicated development tool, Roblox Studio, but it also incorporates AI in various aspects, such as AI-powered NPCs (non-player characters) and the ability to generate 3D models from natural language within games.
Delus is a creator who is working on making games that utilize such AI capabilities. He has been a Roblox user since he was 9 years old and has acquired development skills through self-study. In the past, he has had an official collaboration with the famous band Metallica. He has also been involved in the production of the official world for the popular Netflix anime “KPOP Girls! Demon Hunters”.
He is currently developing a new game utilizing generative AI. He is using the latest technology as a tool to expand his own creativity. How are next-generation creators engaging with AI?
Mogura VR conducted an interview with Delus at GDC 2026, which was held in San Francisco in March 2026.

I discovered Roblox at the age of 9 and became a creator through self-study.
—When did you become a creator at Roblox?
Delus: I started playing Roblox when I was 9 years old. I started out as just a Roblox player, and I never imagined I’d become a developer. When I was 13, I started to think I wanted to make my own game.
I started Roblox Studio by placing open-source assets like trees and buildings from the toolbox. That’s how I created my own games, and eventually I started posting my work on X.
People who saw my work started offering me jobs, and my skills improved. I also learned how to create my own 3D models, and eventually reached a level where I could earn money from it.
I think it’s amazing that I didn’t need to receive specialized education at school and was able to acquire everything through self-study. Even without a degree, I was able to get work as long as I had my own portfolio.
—So you didn’t go to university?
Delus: I didn’t go to college. I had planned to, but I got busy with game development and brand collaborations at Roblox. My first brand collaboration was a project with the heavy metal band Metallica. It was an amazing experience to bring such a famous band from way back to a platform for younger generations like ours.
—Your first collaboration is with Metallica! You’ve started off with a collaboration with a famous artist.
Delus: At the time, I was working with a development team called Minitoon, who were making the hugely popular game “Piggy.” Roblox officially approached him with a proposal for a collaboration with Metallica.
As part of the team, I was responsible for creating all the items used in this collaboration. Afterwards, Roblox recognized my talent as an artist, and I was able to work with other artists such as rapper Destroy Lonely.

—So you’re currently creating a new experience?
Delus: My team is developing a go-kart racing game called “Dream Racers,” similar to Kart Mario. September Last, Roblox announced an update to a new AI-powered feature called “Cube AI” (*1), and we thought about how we could use it to create an interesting game.
*1 Cube Ai: Roblox’s AI feature that generates 3D models when prompts are entered within the game world.
I love Mario Kart, so I created a system that allows players to use AI to generate their own original karts before starting a race.
Players purchase words such as “bomb,” “crab,” “fruit,” and “snowflake” within the game and combine them. It’s also possible to input your own words; for example, you can select “snowflake,” “crab,” and “rocket” and press the generate button.
The AI interprets these words and creates its own 3D models, even painting and texturing them. In this case, it generates a kart incorporating the coloring of a snowflake, the body of a crab, and the shape of a rocket.
All players generate their own karts and compete in races. It is heavily inspired by Mario Kart, and players can pick up loot crates (item boxes) scattered on the course and use them on other players.
The maps are incredibly original, featuring things like flying starfish. The game is themed around dreams and creativity, and basically anything is possible in this game.
—How long was the development period?
Delus: Actually, we only started development in 2026. It’s a very short period of time, but it’s already come to a very high level of completion. (*2)
*2 At the time of the interview, two and a half months had passed since development began.
What are the benefits of using AI in Roblox content creation?
—Creating and adjusting 3D models is one of the most challenging tasks for game creators, but I imagine it’s become much easier thanks to AI.
Delus: That’s exactly how I feel. We’re mainly focusing our efforts on the feel of the car controls and the gameplay. We’re also working on adding new courses.
We’ve balanced the system so that everyone has a chance to win a race, no matter what words they choose to generate their kart. The kart’s parameters change depending on the words you select.
For example, choosing “rocket” will increase your speed, and choosing “crab” will increase your durability because it has a shell. No matter what word you choose, you have a fair chance of winning.
—It’s amazing that you were able to create that much in just two and a half months, but how do you feel about introducing an AI system into the gameplay, Delus?
Mr. Delus: I think many people are afraid that AI will take away their jobs. However, I see AI as simply a tool to extend human capabilities.
By utilizing AI in this way, we developers no longer need to manually create a large number of unique carts one by one. This allows us to entrust the creativity to the players, which is beneficial for everyone involved.
—How many people are on the development team?
Delus: The team consists of only three people, including myself. I handle all creative aspects, such as map creation, and I develop with two programmers, Juan and Sal. I met Sal on the Roblox platform. They don’t have a creative background, but they are highly skilled engineers, while I, on the other hand, have absolutely no programming skills.
We collaborate by leveraging each other’s strengths. The two engineers also use AI as a programming aid, and AI is further boosting their development speed.
—How will you be finalizing it for release?
Delus: It takes about 20-30 seconds for the AI to generate a cart, so we’re thinking of adding a mini-game that you can play in the lobby while you wait.
The crazy karts that are generated will look great on TikTok and YouTube. We plan to implement drift and jump functions in the future, so please look forward to the finished product.
—As you can see on your album cover, you really love cars, don’t you?
Delus: I grew up surrounded by cars, and there are many dream cars I’d like to own someday. I’m very happy that I can express my passion for cars with Roblox.
To a metaverse on the scale of Player Ready One
—It’s said that it will be released within a few months, but are you the type of person who always wants to work on new projects?
Delus: I tend to get bored with one project quickly, so I often dabble in various things. But I also think that’s part of the appeal of game development.
If I wake up in the morning and come up with a new idea, I immediately text my team and ask, “What do you think of this?” and sometimes that turns into a new project. I like this environment where we’re not confined to a mold and can always take on new challenges.
—Roblox is growing rapidly and its user base is increasing. How do you feel about that?
Delus: I’ve been playing Roblox since I was a child, so I have a very deep personal attachment to it. I’ve been able to make friends and build my life on this platform.
I’m very much looking forward to Roblox’s future development. I believe it will be the first platform to reach the scale of the movie “Ready Player One.”
