An XR sports area will open at the Tokyo Metropolitan Government Building on March 27th, offering free access to content that allows visitors to experience the “Tokyo 2020 Games.”

On Friday, March 27th, the Tokyo Metropolitan Government will open a new sports-themed digital area on the second floor of the Tokyo Metropolitan Government Building No. 1. Admission is free.

The highlight is the XR experience “TOKYO LEGACY XR MEMORIES,” which realistically recreates the sports climbing wall used at the Tokyo 2020 Games. You can experience the scale of the competition space and feel the power of the athletes’ “height” and “speed” up close.

In addition, several interactive experiences will be offered in the area. “Virtual Edo Marathon” is an experience where you can run through the streets of Edo while wearing a VR headset. Your view moves in accordance with your arm movements, and you can enjoy famous landmarks such as Asakusa and Nihonbashi in 360-degree video.

Other attractions include “Cyber Boccia,” a game where multiple players can compete against each other, and “eSkatepark,” where you can try out skateboarding tricks.

The digital area is open from 9:30 to 17:30 on weekdays and from 11:00 to 18:00 on Saturdays and holidays. It is closed during the New Year holidays and on days when the Tokyo Metropolitan Government Building is undergoing maintenance. From March 27 to April 5 during the spring break, a stamp rally will be held, visiting three exhibitions within the Tokyo Metropolitan Government Building. Participants aged 18 and under who collect all the stamps will receive a commemorative gift.
