High-quality videos from VTubers (Virtual YouTubers) and virtual creators are uploaded every day. From among them, I’ll introduce some videos that I personally think you should definitely watch. In particular, I’ll delve deeper into unique works, works with high technical skill and planning ability, and works that are timely, capturing the fun, effort, and talent of the creators!
[Quiz] Who knows former President Fujii best!?
A video has been uploaded to the Aogiri High School channel featuring a quiz about former president Shinichiro Fujii (nicknamed “Fujii-sensei”). The fact that neither the questioner nor the answerers seem particularly interested in the subject reveals a sense of distance and relationship, making it feel very real.
In this video, Otodama Tamako says that former president Fujii is “the person who saved Aogiri High School when it was in trouble after its neighbor was embroiled in controversy when it started, by creating a scripted video.” He is the person responsible for creating most of the videos on the official channel that helped Aogiri High School go viral, and is a well-known and popular producer.
While the quiz has a somewhat humorous tone, even someone who’s just learned about him will understand his affection for Aogiri High School and his passion for VTuber culture after watching this video.
It was announced on May 27th that former CEO Fujii would be stepping down as producer, and he is currently working as a freelancer. He has already opened his own channel under the name “Fujii-sensei.”
On Otodama Tamako’s channel, Fujii-sensei has already made an appearance as a Live2D model, and you can watch a conversation between the two who have supported Aogiri High School from the very beginning. Listening to their conversation, you can really tell that they had a teacher-student-like relationship.
[Big Reveal] We infiltrated a stop-motion animation studio!? But wait, who is this…? | #OmuriceDiner
Omu from Omurice Shokudo has put up for sale a handmade wool felt mascot kit featuring rice. This time, we infiltrated STUDIO UGAJIN, which is collaborating on its production. We’ve uploaded some valuable footage of the stop-motion animation process for the wool felt mascot.
The video shows a cat made of wool felt being painstakingly moved and filmed. I am simply in awe of the painstaking work that took three hours to create a three-second video. It’s no wonder that the cat, upon seeing the animation created by moving and filming it so meticulously, exclaims, “It’s alive!” You can really get a glimpse of the process of imbuing an object with a soul.
Here is the finished stop-motion animation. You can see the wool felt omutorisu dancing cutely, bouncing and jumping around in their fluffy forms, as if they were alive. The animation is very cute from beginning to end, with expressive faces, but if you watch this video after seeing the process, you will likely be overwhelmed by the effort and skill involved.
In the latter half of the video mentioned earlier, Omu also gets to experience needle felting with the artist. You can actually see the process of how it’s made. The video also conveys the feeling of satisfaction as the piece gradually takes shape through the painstaking work. This video is full of the excitement of Omu, who loves making things.
The wool felt mascot, Rice, will be available for purchase at Comitia on June 7th (Sunday). It’s also already available for online purchase on BOOTH, so if you’re interested after watching the video, please check it out.
Making an edible Rubik’s Cube [Fantasy Restaurant]
Kani, the owner of the imaginary restaurant, is known for cooking things that are not actually edible in his imagination and making them look delicious. This time, he has uploaded a video in which he cooks an “edible Rubik’s Cube,” which he had cooked in one of his videos, so that it can be eaten in the real world.
The inspiration for this video is “The Unsolvable Rubik’s Cube,” an animated work in which a natural Rubik’s Cube is prepared in a delicious-looking way. In order to recreate this in the real world, they are striving to achieve the wobbly texture, which is quite difficult. They 3D model the indented cube that forms the basis of the Rubik’s Cube and print it with a 3D printer. They then use that as a base to make a silicone mold, creating their own homemade mold. Choosing the material for the Rubik’s Cube to use in the mold is also a challenge. You can see them trying out different materials, such as amber candy and sesame agar, as they go through a process of trial and error.
The reason why the food in imaginary restaurants looks so delicious and fun is precisely because you can’t actually eat it, but this film shows just how elaborate it would be to try and bring it to life in the real world. I want to applaud the crab’s dedication to texture and its relentless pursuit of perfection.
Kani is known for his retro-style videos using videotapes, and the live-action parts of this film, set in the real world, also have a retro feel, evoking a nostalgic feeling when you watch them.
Spot the real haters’ comments! [Hate Comment Werewolf]
Cellmates is a game where prisoners take on various challenges as part of their prison duties. This time, the game was “Anti-Comment Werewolf,” where participants had to choose one actual negative comment, and then have other participants submit comments disguised as their own, with the goal of selecting the real one. No matter what you do, this is the kind of thing that really hits home!
While actual negative comments are certainly unpleasant, the fake negative comments created by other participants to resemble them are incredibly well done. I encourage you to try and figure out who is mimicking which negative comment, along with the other members. It will keep you guessing, including trying to guess what kind of comment might come.
The fact that genuine anti-comments are being picked out makes the project itself quite solid. Also, it’s difficult to write “mimicry anti-comments” unless you’re friends who can argue with each other to some extent. However, because of the “prisoner” setting, the fun part of Cellmatesn’s group projects is that you can provoke each other to the point of crossing the line.
Of course, they don’t actually think the things that sound like fake negative comments, but the way they can casually throw them out as a joke is a pro-wrestling-like quality that’s unique to this group. This content showcases the true essence of Cellmates, who voluntarily maintain an aggressive stance.
[Walking Trip Vlog] Like a labyrinth leading to another world. I went on a tour of the muscular and rugged areas of Hida Kanayama, Gifu Prefecture
Komaki uploaded a travel vlog about Hida Kanayama in Gifu Prefecture. The place she went for a walk in was called “Sujikotsu,” which is a word used in the Hida region to mean “narrow alleys,” referring to the narrow, winding paths between houses. The moment Komaki enters the Sujikotsu, there’s a feeling of “Is it really okay to go in here!?” which gives off the feeling of taking a step into an adventure and is quite exciting.
Walking through the narrow, winding streets between houses, you’ll discover a complex network of buildings hidden from view. Experience the feeling of stepping into another world through this video.
The Komaki Diary video series is captivating because of Komaki’s appearance, which blends seamlessly into the real world. This time, in particular, since she is traveling, the skillful use of light is astonishing. The natural light that enters her eyes as she walks not only hits the surrounding buildings but also Komaki herself, creating unique shadows and colors, and the technique used makes it seem as if you are actually there.
Komaki says she wants to visit diverse spots in all 47 prefectures of Japan in the future. Her choice to explore muscular locations this time shows her keen sense of style. We can look forward to seeing her virtual body blend into and become a part of these unique spots all over Japan.
[Experience Story] Beware of these kinds of projects! Things that individual Vtubers are careful about when working on projects! New VTuber Yuubari Rei #YubariTime
For VTubers, especially those working independently, receiving job offers is a welcome surprise. But is it really okay?
Yushin Rei did a live stream explaining what she pays attention to as an independent VTuber when it comes to projects. It’s a must-see for any independent VTuber.
Because he speaks concretely based on his own experiences, his arguments are far more persuasive. The slides are divided into four sections: “First things to check when a project comes in,” “Things to be careful about with projects,” “Projects to watch out for!”, and “Things I do to improve things,” and the video itself is also divided into chapters, making it very easy to watch and understand.
The book offers numerous tips for protecting yourself from unexpected troubles and for achieving win-win situations through good work. It also discusses, from a positive perspective, how to make everyone happy when you’re involved in a good project.
While the main focus is on precautions for VTubers, even if you’re not a VTuber, the content will be useful for working professionals, especially regarding contracts, so please check it out.
【Singing Stream】I’ll be collaborating with my favorite Shiraku Utano (?) 💎⚡️ #UtanoLive【KARAOKE/Vsinger】
Shiraku Utano held a live stream where she collaborated with Shiraku Utano for the first time. At first glance, this might seem like a typo, but it’s true. The overlapping vocals of Shiraku Utano and Shiraku Utano created a magnificent harmony, making it a truly enjoyable singing stream.
This is a very elaborate broadcast, with Shiraku Utano singing and talking in real time, accompanied by pre-recorded tracks. With two Shiraku Utanos, each with a powerful singing voice, the vocal depth is greatly increased, allowing you to enjoy a truly impressive performance.
What’s amazing about this collaboration between two versions of Shiraku Utano is that both versions are moving independently. At first glance, it’s hard to tell which is live and which is pre-recorded, as the individual movements of the two Shiraku Utanos are so natural. I was also surprised that not only the singing but also the conversations between songs were clearly done by the two of them (or at least recreated as if they were). Their banter was like watching a comedy routine. It was truly a virtual performance where one person played two roles.
【MV】Onee-sama♡Love Call / Laplace Darkness (official)
She usually adores her “older sister,” but this time, she seems to have lost all restraint and let everything spill out. Laplace Darkness’s new original music video is a completely over-the-top work that is so impactful it’s almost ridiculous, embodying the idea of being “creepy, righteous, and beautiful.” The lyrics and music were written by Beat Mario and Maron.
This work is fast-paced and energetic throughout, and overflows with otaku music vibes. The fact that you definitely can’t sing it in public or play it at school is also very satisfying. Laplace Darkness openly and shamelessly exposes his sexual fetishes, and while there are some parts that seem a bit excessive, after watching it a few times, you even start to feel a sense of refreshing absurdity.
She sings with unrestrained passion. Her voice is so powerful that it makes you want to shout along with “Big Sister♡” and “YSO!”, but it’s best to keep that feeling to yourself…that’s how intensely passionate this song is. It’s a song that you’ll definitely want to sing along to at a live venue and join in with calls. It’s a bizarre masterpiece that will surely make you want to flood the comments with comments.
【MV】OBF / Joe Rikiichi【Nijisanji】
Joe Rikiichi has released a new original song, “OBF,” which he said he wants people to enjoy listening to “at home alone or with close friends.” So, what exactly is OBF? We’ll explain below, but first, please listen to the song without knowing anything about it, and you’ll figure it out.
“OBF” is an abbreviation for “OK It’s Boon Boon Festival.” The sultry vocal parts sound exactly like the “Oketsu Boon Boon Festival.” The upbeat, vividly colored chorus evokes the image of a late-night, slightly crazy mood, and it features a sample of “Ievan Polkka,” which everyone has probably heard before, along with Joe Rikiichi’s growling “Boon!” voice. It’s incredibly addictive.
The contrast between the languid beginning and the explosive release in the chorus is incredibly powerful. If you can relate to the allure of grilling eight sausages late at night, you’ll find this song’s intensely uplifting momentum not only funny but also deeply moving.
To put it simply, it’s similar to the feeling you get in the middle of the night when you’re thinking about all sorts of things, and you’re laughing heartily at a comedy talk show playing on the late-night radio. It could also be heard as an encouraging song, telling you that it’s okay to let your heart race and do whatever you want, even if it’s alone in the middle of the night.
A dance tutorial video has also been uploaded. The most important thing about dancing to this song is “freedom.” It’s a butt-shaking festival for everyone. Let’s dance freely to the super-high-energy music and Joe Rikiichi’s amazing voice. This is one of the songs I’d love to see performed live someday.
【MV】 The Cutest Genius Girl / OutChips
The music video for Kana Otokage’s new original song, “The Most Adorable Genius Girl,” has been released. The title is so lovely you’ll want to read it aloud. Kana Otokage wrote the lyrics and illustrations herself, and the music was composed by Addpico. The upbeat UK garage-style rhythm of the song is sure to lift your spirits.
She’s a clumsy and timid girl who sometimes cries, but she overwrites those feelings with a smile and spreads her charm. The lightheartedness and positivity of the chorus, “Charm is the strongest, right? (It really is),” is very pleasant. The toughness of Otokage Kana, who sings the lyrics lightly, “I’ll pretend to be stupid and make that arrogant guy fall for me,” and “My plan is a success, he just needs to let his guard down, right?” is also a highlight.
The song is based on the daily worries and struggles of young women. Therefore, Kana Otokage’s vocal expression is fundamentally delicate. However, the positive energy that overcomes these challenges with her charm is skillfully expressed through the pop sensibility of her voice, making this song very easy to listen to and refreshing.
This is a song that I would definitely want to listen to when I’m feeling a little down, when I’m feeling gloomy before work, or when I need a sudden burst of energy to get myself motivated.
【Official MV】Watashi no Ice – Tokiniwa Ranze
There’s something nice about repeatedly eating the same flavor of ice cream. The music video for Ranze Tokiniwa’s 2nd original song, “Watashi no Ice” (My Ice Cream), has been released. With its gentle and relaxing melody, it’s a soothing song that you’ll want to add to your playlist so you can listen to it anytime.
This song, overflowing with love, expresses her immense capacity for understanding, as evidenced by her statement to “you” that “I can even love your sighs,” and her positive outlook on everything. She sings happily, content with the joys she has now, “I keep repeating, repeating, repeating.” In particular, the line “On days when there’s nothing to do, I do nothing, I want to make it a day to love myself” feels like the ultimate form of self-care, a play on the title’s reference to “ice cream.”
Ranze Tokiniwa’s soft and gentle singing voice perfectly matches the ethereal melody. Her exceptionally warm and embracing vocals, which seem to gently comfort the listener, are sure to soothe their heart. This song gently envelops “you” and, as if loving herself alongside you, the warmth of Ranze Tokiniwa softens the heart, gradually giving you a feeling of bliss.
